The rim joist of a home is rarely insulated and never sealed during construction. These joints and gaps between the framing allow for a lot of outside air to enter the home. This means that whatever temperature the outdoor air currently is, the same temperature air is being leaked into the home. This could make for very cold floors in the winter and hot, humid conditions for the crawl space in the summer.
We helped a South Bethany homeowner keep their upstairs cooler in the summer by upgrading their attic with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation (R-60), ZypFoam™ air sealing, SilverGlo™ insulation, and a SmartExhaust™ bath fan—saving them $3,000 with an Energize Delaware rebate!
