Make Sure Your Home Is Properly Insulated

As a homeowner, you may think that since your house came with insulation, you don’t need to worry about insulation for the rest of your home’s lifetime... This is not the case.  True, most houses are insulated when they are built or when you move in, but many times they are only insulated with fiberglass batts.  This is a problem because 1. Fiberglass batts are hard to install without allowing any spaces or gaps to let air through 2. Many installers do not air seal the insulated areas, defeating the purpose of having insulation and 3. Fiberglass batts are often only installed in one layer, which does not have a high enough R-value to keep your home fully insulated.  With proper insulation in your home, there are no air leaks and there is full coverage of insulation to prevent heat flow from passing through.  The right amount of insulation also needs to be installed to have a recommended R-value.  The US Department of Energy recommends an R-value between R-48 and R-60.

Dr. Energy Saver provides a variety of insulation types that you can read about in past blogs.  We make sure our experts know what type of insulation would work best in your home and how to install in properly so it is working at its best and keeping  your home as comfortable as possible.  Call Dr. Energy Saver if you think your home is not properly insulated.
